The meaning behind the shirt

Picture
You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting
In dramatic fashion King Belshazzar saw the handwriting on the wall. In one night his kingdom and life came to an end. In the book of Daniel we read of God’s dramatic judgment. This king exalted himself against the Lord and lost. How would you fare in the scales of justice?

...Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
                                                                                              ~Hebrews 9:27

A king with a proud heart
King Belshazzar had seen the high position that had been given to his father, king Nebuchadnezzar and how he squandered it when his heart became proud. King Nebuchadnezzar had behaved so arrogantly that his throne and glory was taken away. He was driven away from his kingdom and lived as a mad man until he recognized that God is ruler over all, and He sets in honor whomever He wishes.

And now a son

After all of this, Nebuchadnezzar's son, Belshazzar came to power. Unfortunately the son learned nothing from the events of his father’s life. He also acted improperly. He exalted himself against the Lord, praising gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone even though they do not see, hear or understand. He did not honor, nor glorify the God in whose hand his life was held.

But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God "will give to each person according to what he has done."
                                                                                                     ~Romans 2:5-6

God weighed the life of king Belshazzar, and it did not measure up. A hand appeared and wrote the judgment on the wall: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN.

"This is what these words mean: Mene: God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. Tekel: You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Peres: Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians."
                                                                                                      ~Daniel 5:26-28

Everyone will stand judgment someday; how will you measure up?

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.
                                                                                                      ~2 Corinthians 5:10

Symbolism in the shirt
T
he symbolism is right out of Daniel 5:22-28:  But you, Belshazzar, his son, have not humbled yourself, though you knew all this. Instead, you have set yourself up against the Lord of heaven. You had the goblets from his temple brought to you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand. But you did not honor the God who holds in his hand your life and all your ways. Therefore he sent the hand that wrote the inscription. This is the inscription that was written: mene, mene, tekel, parsin
Here is what these words mean:

Mene:
God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end.
Tekel:
You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting.
Peres:
Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.
